8.12 Riddles

Noah was slightly excited to see Wilson walk through the front door. He had always felt like Wilson had good intentions. This was easier for him to accept after realizing he couldn't control Brooke's every move anymore. At least, he reasoned, Wilson was a good guy.
"Bringing my daughter home again?" He taunted as Wilson followed Brooke through the house. "We're just going out back, the side gate was locked," Brooke said sharply as she stomped through the dinning room. Wilson just shrugged and followed after flashing an apologetic smile at Noah.

Wilson found Brooke out back on a swing set. He noted how she looked sad and lonely. "What's going on?" He asked as he approached her. Brooke sat in silence as he got closer and closer. Instead of asking her again he went to stand behind her and wait it out. So far the strategy had worked multiple times. "I've just decided I'm tired of the lies," she replied finally.

Wilson gave her a soft push as she began explaining her run in with Ricky and the load he dumped on her. Brooke stopped talking just short of tears. Wilson quickly wrapped her in his arms in attempts to comfort her, "What if they were just trying to protect you?" Brooke pulled way, as if she had never considered it a possibility.

If looks could kill, Wilson was sure he'd be dead. But Brooke still stood there allowing him to hold her, and he was thankful for it. "You don't lie to someone you love," Brooke spat. "No," Wilson began, tilting his body towards her, "but you wouldn't tell them the whole truth because you didn't want to hurt them."

Suddenly Brooke realized he was withholding information. "What are you not telling me?" She asked, breaking away from him. Brooke could only imagine what he wasn't telling her. Was he a reformed renegade vampire with fifteen wives all generations older than him but did look any older than herself? Was it possible he had six children? Or maybe he was just playing games. Just being nice because she was vulnerable. "Speak to your mother. When your ready."

Wilson spoke in code too much. Speak to your mother, how was that the least bit useful? But Brooke would do it. One day. He'd never lied to her yet. Brooke laid her head back onto his chest, "I've to get up early tomorrow. Go save the world." Brooke could feel his body shake in agreement, "One sneaky teen at a time." Brooke didn't have to look up to know that he was smiling.

"One more thing," he said pulling away slightly, "Can we do this again tomorrow?" Brooke laughed before responding, "call me." Wilson left willingly. At least tonight. Even though he had to leave her again at least this time he knew there would be a tomorrow.
