7.7 Livewire

Noah was estatic when Anastasia quit her job as a Music Scout and took on a part time gig at the grocery store just so she could be at home with him more. He had to congratulate her. Their marriage was full of love, and they were ready to make their family grow.

Noah's brother's, with the exception of Gage, had long since had kids with their wives. Anthony was even nice enough to have twins. Angel was ecstatic, but she was ready for grandbaby number five, but Gavin still would not trust Anastasia.

Anastasia's belly swelled under her clothes. Gavin could not hold his excitement. The next chapter of his life was about to begin. He wanted to give the best to his child, read him books like his father did, teach him to play the xylophone, and most off watch Saturday morning cartoons. The two soon to be parents decorated a nursery. Since they were unsure of the baby's gender, the decided that green would be the best color.

Anastasia choose to spend a lot of time admiring their handiwork.

Many times, while sitting alone, she'd think about the hatred Gavin had for her. Sometimes, he'd seek her out, just to taunt her for no reason in particular. This hurt Anastasia. She could see how Gavin interacted with the rest of his son's spouses. She couldn't understand why he wouldn't like her. After all, she had given up being virtually immortal and almost killed herself trying to be the person his son deserved.

It was time to bring her sacrifices to his attention.

She played her part well, choosing a place far from Noah. He didn't need to know the tension that was present between his father and his wife. Anastasia found a warm spot on the back patio the family was currently working on, she knew it would be a matter of time before her father-in-law came looking for her.

He found her, like he always did. Anastasia hopped on her feet as quickly as she could. "Out here scheming how your going to kill my son and take our family money?" Gavin spat from behind her.
"Actually I was out here thinking why I tolerate your hostility," Anastasia retorted without any sarcasm. "Oh yeah," she continued, she didn't have to be too nice to him, "because I happen to love your son."
Gavin was actually taken back by her kindness, but her sarcasm wasn't welcome. "I know your scheming. You always do."

Gavin took a step back, narrowing his eyes at her. "I'm watching you," he threaten stepping away. Anastasia made a small noise. A soft, innocent noise. It sounded like she was admitting defeat. Gavin turned back to face her. "What have I done to you?" she whispered, "Why can't you like me?"

Gavin's hard ass facade broke. "I just don't trust you. That's all." Gavin expected a smart retort in response, but instead she gave him the truth.

"I almost died getting rid of that rash. I lost my husband and my two kids." Anastasia looked up, meeting his eyes. "I did it for your son because he deserved it." At first she thought Gavin would ask questions, or he would think ill of her. But how do you explain vampirism to someone who doesn't know it exists?

Anastasia shrugged and turned away, "Anastasia," he called to her, acknowledging her for the first time by name, "it's getting cold. You and the baby should come inside."
