8.10 Vampire's Tale

Brooke really wasn't sure who to trust. She had her parents, who seemed clueless, her stalkerish almost boyfriend, who seemed full of crack pot theories, or her best friend, who Brooke wasn't really sure if she had actually saved her or just spared her more time. Who Brooke really wanted to trust was her grandfather. He'd understand.

She had heard that one could communicate through ghosts, especially if they weren't ready to leave yet. She wanted to test the theory, spending night after night wandering around the family graveyard.

Graveyards hardly creeped her out. There was something definite about them. Everything was at peace. It was almost the only thing that was certain.

Night after night she returned just to watch the moon drift across the sky. So far, nothing had happened. Not a soul to be seen. Brooke was shaken by a sharp drop in the temperature, a sure sign that the supernatural was about to occur. She moved quickly towards her grandfather's grae waiting patiently. But instead of waking up to see a ghost, she saw two red burning spheres moving quickly towards her. She tried screaming, tried to fight, but it was useless. The glowing eyes were on her too fast.

"Shhh," a husky voice whispered from behind her, "No need to wake the dead." He man released her, dropping her to her feet. "My name's Ricky. You don't know me, but I know all about you."
Ricky forced her down onto a bench, "We have quite a bit to talk about. I run a very tight ship around here. I'm not the oldest, but I am one of the first. And trust me, we live in secrecy. Anyone who threatens us. Well, lets just say they don't make it very long."

The vampire had an impressive tale spanning generations. He chose his words carefully, only allowing her to know why he was there without answering any of her questions. "You believe what you believe because of me. Your great grandmother wanted to protect you." Brooke looked into his eyes.
"Why do you tell me this?" Brooke asked close to tears. "My days are numbered young one. I won't be there to protect you when you run off at the mouth."

It was hard to comprehend. Brooke's head was swimming, "What about my best friend Jodi? She's one of you." Ricky shook his head, "She's nothing in the large picture. Just some runt that no one killed." Brooke fought back the tears. This heartless creature would never see her cry. How could he talk about her like she was nothing?

Ricky relaxed his body. The girl was scared. "For now, my kind are at bay, you are safe. I'll go ahead and say a few are dead. But that's how my kind are. We are vicious. Don't mix with us." Ricky looked at her, his expression quickly changing. "I'm not done. Brooke --Shit," he barked, as before her eyes he changed into a ghost.

((No Joke. I had to reboot an old save to get 3/4 of the pics..))
